Khatra P.S is located at 22°59′N 86°51′E / 22.98°N 86.85°E / 22.98; 86.85 and 45 km far from Dist. HQ. Khatra Police Station has a jurisdiction over an area of229.68 sq km having population of 1,17,022 with 7 G.P. It is a Sub-Division HQ police station sharing its border with Ranibandh, Simlapal P.S of this district .Some parts of this P.S covered by dense forest. Khatra is in the south-west of Bankura District, which is itself to the west of the southern part of West Bengal. Khatra has been declared as Municipalty Corporation recently.There is a market in Khatra town Bus stand. The Kangsabati irrigation project partly covers the Khatra sub-division, with the Kangsabati dam being important for farming in the districts of Bankura and Paschim Medinipur. Mukutmonipur is major tourist attractions visited by more than a lakh (100 000) visitors. The second biggest earth dam of India is located in Mukutmonipur. Mukutmanipur, a quaint serene place, which is home to the world’s reportedly longest (10.8 km) man-made mud-banked fresh water barrage that canalises Kangshabati & Kumari Rivers into the three drought affected districts of Bankura, Purulia & Midnapore for irrigation in the summer months.
